Overview
350.org is an international grassroots movement of climate activists that uses the power of campaigns to end fossil fuel use and financing around the world.
Even as the International Energy Agency has said there can be no new fossil fuel projects if the world is to stay within the 1.5°C limit, Latin America is set to ramp up production and become a major oil producer this decade, possibly producing 25% of the worlds additional oil supply in the next 5 years. An estimated 250,000 sq. miles of undisturbed Amazon rainforest (home to 12 million people) have been set aside by governments for potential oil and gas drilling.
Our funding will support 350.org to build a strong coordinated climate justice movement in Latin America that can protect local communities and amplify their voices to halt fossil fuel finance and invest in renewable solutions in Latin America. This project aims to apply pressure and engage key stakeholders to reduce investment flows to Vaca Muerta, the Columbian corridor, and the Amazon and increase investments in renewable energy projects.
