Overview
The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) is an independent, non-profit global standards body for the voluntary carbon market. It aims to drive more capital towards climate solutions by increasing the quality of carbon credits.
Carbon markets play an important role in investor and corporate action on net zero by helping channel capital towards much needed carbon sinks. However, improving the quality and accountability within carbon markets is key to their effective functioning and credibility. Integrity and transparency in carbon markets will enable better investor stewardship and asset allocation in pursuit of climate goals.
The ICVCM’s Core Carbon Principles (CCPs), developed using the latest science, set a global standard for high-integrity carbon credits and enable the creation of real, verifiable climate impact. CCP-labelled carbon credits usher in a new chapter for the voluntary carbon market, defined by trust and consistent high integrity. This will enable the market to scale and fulfil its potential as a powerful climate solution.
Our grant to the ICVCM supports the establishment of minimum standards for carbon credits to rebuild trust, confidence, and quality in this market. Our grant also supports the ICVCM’s thought leadership and engagement with a diverse set of organisations through convenings and Continuous Improvement Work Programs (CIWPs). CIWPs advance the evolution of the carbon market by bringing together leading market experts and key stakeholders in a collaborative effort to chart the next generation of solutions, actively addressing complex market challenges, exploring areas for increased ambition, and driving high-integrity solutions to accelerate emissions reductions and removals.
