Fossil fuels are increasingly funded by private equity and debt as responsible investing has grown in the public markets. The information on these investors exists but is scattered and incomplete.

Our funding aims to bring together researchers, academics and data providers to consolidate and complete the data set that identifies who is funding fossil fuels in private markets. It also supports a review of the performance of those investments. The project has three main elements:

  • Identifying who owns what, and what are the impacts of those investments.
  • Investigating performance and losses of private investments in fossil assets.
  • Media, communications, digital testing, outreach and coordination with campaigners.
